Don't Burn Your Baby on the Grill
Winner, 2nd place at TESA spring art show
At the very start of the pandemic when we all were just getting locked down, I decided that if I was going to be home all that time I wanted a playstation. So I put it out to my friends “Hey somebody buy some art so I can get a playstation” Sure enough my friend Steve hired me, giving only a single directive “Do something surreal”. I was so moved that I ended up doing a piece the size of my coffee table, taking an entire month to do. I got all the ideas by laying on the floor with my sketchbook in the dark with just a little light to see, playing music, closing my eyes and letting my mind wander. I drew the images that came to me, then I went over to the big table and put them to paper. I love not only this piece but the friendship it represents to me. The title comes from a list of titles I keep. Non sequitur phrases that I hope to one day turn into an art book of imaginary album covers. Down the road, I ended up entering this piece in a spring art show and winning second place for showing. I didn’t realize that was a possibility and it seems silly to award art especially when you’re not even comparing apples to apples, but you know what, I sure do still have that second place ribbon and if you try and take it I’ll sock you. My friend Steve went and got a second place ribbon to display next to the original in his home too which I thought was really great.
This poster has a partly glossy, partly matte finish and it'll add a touch of sophistication to any room.
